Thank you for the great information! I don't believe this was immature; however, I'm not the best judge of them. This one was nearly 1 1/2 inches long. A male I spotted last week on the other end of town had a more typical coloring: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/86216043
Hi Cindy! This individual is definitely male, as indicated by its terminal appendages. Its coloration looks less like other males I've seen on PN -- do you think it could be either an immature- or young male? Bear in mind, Variegated Meadowhawk dragonflies aren't found in the eastern USA so my inference is based upon what I can see in your photos rather than experience.
