Field Notes

Description:

The male black widow is either black, or closer to the appearance of the juveniles in color, and is much smaller with a body than the female (less than 1/4 inch).
Juveniles have a distinctly different appearance to the adults, the abdomen is grayish to black with white stripes running across it and is spotted with yellow and orange.

Habitat:

Semi rural.

Notes:

Found under a rock in a friend's backyard. The enlarged palps identify this as a male & the stripes indicate a juvenile or sub-adult.
