Field Notes

Habitat:

Gulf coast states Florida to Texas, tropical hammocks and wooded areas, gardens, etc. Caterpillars found on host plant Passion Vines. As seen here they will pupate on other plants.

Notes:

Found this little guy hanging upside down in the process of transforming into the chrysalis. It seems they'll find an appropriate shrub for this (not their food source of the passion vine) where their chrysalis looks just like a small dried leaf. See this nearby spotting on the same day.
