Field Notes

Description:

Large, horned mammal.

Habitat:

Waterhole in Yala National Park. The common mynah seems to have found a good place...large mammals are often hosts to external parasites/opportunistic insects which are easy pickings for this bird. It walked down the spine right to the tail and then back between the horns again.

Notes:

It has been listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List since 1986, as the remaining population totals less than 4,000.
