Field Notes

Description:

This fly has very well developed legs and is seen resting on the caps of two different types of mushrooms. One heavily infested mushroom has larvae that are the possible result of the interest of this type of fly.

Habitat:

I've noticed this several times perched on mushrooms.

Notes:

Tapeigaster brunneifrons is the darkest species, another lighter species is seen here;

The maggots (pic 4 & 5) are not necessarily related to the fly.

Tapeigaster luteipennis http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12154029 seems a likely ID here
These legs belong to a robber fly but abdomen seems too short Does anyone recognize this fellow? http://bugeric.blogspot.com.au/2010/07/robber-flies.html
