Field Notes

Description:

The Green Hairstreak is a small butterfly, which is still widespread across most of the UK, although many colonies have been lost in recent years. The upperside is a uniform dull brown with two paler patches on the male's forewings made up of scent scales. The undersides are a bright green with a thin white line, often reduced to a faint row of dots or even missing altogether. They never rest with their wings open.

Habitat:

Callophrys rubi is found in Europe, North Africa, Russia

they are very similar! but Callophrys avis has this white line, so our identification is correct.
There is another green one (but not from Central Europe ;-)... see comment below) but from Northern Africa and some quite closed areas in Spain (actually quite close to Valencia): Callophrys avis: http://www.butterfly-guide.co.uk/species/hairstreaks/andal8.htm But I think we are still safe with our ID!
OK, I have opened the screen some time ago and ID some minutes ago, obviously you were faster ;-)... At least we came to the same conclusion :-))!
yes, I know, I've been waiting a long time to see their wings open, but it never happened! :)
The only full green butterfly in Central Europe and you will never see the resting butterfly with open wings.
