Field Notes

Description:

Red squirrels are small squirrels, reddish in color with a white belly and throat.

Habitat:

Typically these squirrels are found in conifer or mixed conifer/hardwood forests. They have been expanding their range, however, into forest dominated by hardwoods.

Notes:

I photographed this squirrel at a bird feeder set out in the middle of Sax-Zim Bog in northern Minnesota.

My father used to blame these little rascals for cutting the electric wire to our home when I was a girl. This is a real beauty!
