Description:

Black-tailed prairie Dog. These black-tailed prairie dogs live at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Maryland. They range from the great plains and desert grasslands of the United States west. They are members of the squirrel family and closely related to the ground squirrel. They have yellowish to reddish brown fur on their back and sides and lighter colored fur under their neck and on chest. Small ears on the sides of the head, long body, small front paws with long claws and a short black-tipped tail.
