Collared Dove
Streptopelia decaocto
51.8931, 0.904629
Field Notes
Description:
A medium sized dove, about the same size as a feral pigeon but much slimmer. It is greyish pink in colour, with a dark mark around the neck (hence the name). Similar in shape to the turtle dove. They are very common in the UK, but I've found them to be quite shy, especially compared to the larger wood pigeon. I hear them a lot in the mornings. There was a pair in this tree, but the other one had hidden itself quite well.
Habitat:
Usually found in urban areas where there are trees to nest
Notes:
Spotted on the University of Essex campus grounds.
