Description:

Wasp getting ready to emerge after metamorphosis. Found in a cubby in rotting log, a couple inches in. It was conscious, but very slow-moving. Legs and antennae still attached to body. Very small (next to my index finger in one photo).

Habitat:

Rotting log in woods, near creek

Apoid wasp, I think. Found in a cubby in a rotting log, where there were tunnels and lots of pupae like the one in my other posting. Also found one that looked similar but all black. Bug experts, what species might this be?
