Description:
The Eastern white-tail is a medium sized deer that standing approximately 3.5 feet at the shoulder with a reddish brown coat in the warmer months that shifts to a greyish in the winter. Males (bucks) are larger than females and grow antlers that can stretch up to 3 feet across.
Habitat:
Traditionally deer live in wooded area, but will travel through rural and suburban neighborhood's gardens and lawns browsing (eating). This particular suburban yard is somewhat secluded so deer often stop to rest here as well, occasionally bedding down for the night. With the exception of a few cold days our Autumn has been quite a warm one so far.
Notes:
One of the larger of the four (or more) bucks that stopped to rest in the area this day. (Another can be seen at http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/89256067 ) They did not cluster together as closely as the herds of does that we see in spring and summer, but at one point three did come rest within 30 or so feet of each other. No does were in sight at all throughout the day.
