Soldier beetles, that is. We get different species in our corner of the globe. =)
They're out in many places around the world right now. They are excellent aphid predators. We get lots in our garden every spring.
Quite a gathering in that second photo!
Must be the right season for them, I've been seeing them everywhere lately and in big groups like your 2nd photo!
