Field Notes

Description:

Tough, black fruiting bodies that were covered in whitish dust of conidia. Sizes ranged from approximately 1-3cm tall.

Habitat:

Growing on the ground in rotting wood in a mostly deciduous forest.

When I first saw them, I assumed they were Dead Man's Fingers. But, after looking at my field guide, I wondered if they might be earth tongues (Trichoglossum or Geoglossum). Does anyone have any insight?
