Field Notes

Description:

Densely hairy biennial, 12-24 in. tall. Leaves broad and wide, palmately 5-lobed, lobes brad, toothed and pointed. Flowers are lavender, bell-shaped about 0.5 in. long, 5 lobes, stamens extend 0.1 in beyond corolla, borne loosely on cymes that extend above the leaves. Bloom May-June (but April in 2012).

Habitat:

Rich woods in eastern USA and Canada.
