Field Notes

Description:

A 3 cm long caterpillar covered in beige 'fur' brushed back and upwards towards an orange dorsal stripe resembling in the front a faux-hawk hairstyle. It had a distinct posterior 'tail-tuft.' It curled into a defensive position protecting its underbelly when disturbed.

Habitat:

This caterpillar was found at open end of a garden hose on a tree-shaded patio on a cool and sunny autumn morning. The patio is located on pasture adjoining a woodland in the Gulf Coast Region of Texas.

Notes:

I'd love some confirmation that I gave the right species, but I think I've got it.

Silly me - I'm looking for a snake. This is cool, and such an unusual caterpillar. Great photos and notes once again, Harmony.
