Field Notes

Description:

A narrow-"nosed" lanternbug, Prolepta sp. 20-40mm in length. This insect is not timid so it did not try to fly away. It has perfect colors to camouflage itself well on this tree bark. However, it's distinct green abdomen must always be kept concealed under it's wings. Can be confused with Dictyopharidae.

Habitat:

On a tree trunk along the canopy bridge in Bukit Gemuk (Fat Hill), Tawau, Sabah. Genus ID thanks to Albert Kang.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy: 1000m diameter. Spotted this with Dan. This amazing creature is my first time spotting of this species. Genus ID thanks to Albert Kang.
