Habitat:
This butterfly is found all over the island, to about 3 500 feet, and is commonly encountered, but is rarer in the North. They are found mainly from the wet wooden areas with open spaces where Mango trees are abundant. Though commonest during the rains, individuals may be seen all year round.
Notes:
It is a highly temperamental insect and are somewhat shy. The species is a great tease, preferring to fly in the forest, rather than out in the open, and when one enters enclosed woodland one is invariably soon aware of it flying very swiftly around knee height, stopping on a sun-dappled spot for a few seconds, just within spitting distance. This behavior is more noticeable among the females because of the sudden flash of its white stripes and clipping motion. But it is also at times settles down on damp areas. As soon as it gets threatened by a slight movement, it flies towards the canopy. It may be seen around the same location day after day.
