Description:
Adult bee flies nectar on flowers. The larvae are parasitoids of ground-nesting bees, such as mining, plasterer & halictid bees. Females will lay their eggs in open tunnels of solitary bees. Once the larva emerges it will feed on the provisions left for the bee larvae and will eventually attack & kill the bee larvae.
Habitat:
Midwestern U.S. + Georgia, & Alabama. Meadows, open fields, gardens.
