Field Notes

Description:

This tree is located at the dowstream end of a slough. I imagine the forces of water and debris carried on it, have twisted, pruned, and bent this tree repeatedly to produce the unusual shape.

Habitat:

Reclaimed farmland-riparian

Notes:

The wood of beech lends itself well to applications were strength and durability are important. Additionally, the edible nuts are sought in the fall, by man and animal alike.
