Description:

Length 12mm. Two of these lying on the balcony floor upside down but alive. Righted them but they quickly overturned again. It was like they were drunk!

Habitat:

Balcony, attracted by night light.

I believe this is a Hister Beetle or Clown Beetle (family Histeridae). It has elbowed antennae with clubbed ends and plays dead whenever threatened.
