Field Notes

Description:

Low-growing plant with small, fleshy leaves. Rosette of many white-to-pink petals. Flower two inches across.

Habitat:

Dry shrub-steppe, east of Cascades, to Rocky Mountains.

Notes:

First collected by Lewis and Clark Expedition. Genus named for Meriwether Lewis.
John Day Fossil Beds National Monument; Painted Hills Unit; central Oregon.
