Field Notes
Description:
According to my guide, this species is not very commonly seen while diving in Palau. It was the first time he had seen Chilean Devil Rays after diving here for several years. The pair appeared quickly and moved with much excitement, displaying what looked to be mating behaviors, and I believe this picture shows a male courting a female. This all happened right before our safety stop on my last dive on this trip to Palau. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to observe these amazing creatures in the wild.
