Description:
An evergreen tree, belonging to fig family (Moraceae), some 20 m high, with huge leaves deeply dissected into 5 to 8 lobes. Leaves are more than 50 cm long. Fruits are roughly the size of pomelo, sometimes bigger... Fruits are rounded, green with rough skin with spikes.
According to people from this area, this particular variety is rarely used as bread and more as vegetable, most often cooked into some sort of sauce.
Habitat:
Tropical (equatorial) forest, almost untouched.
Notes:
Apparently introduced species, probably during the colonial era. I've seen these trees a lot in West Africa, but this was the only one I saw in Congo...
