Field Notes

Description:

Bulrushes sway in the wind. This aquatic plant blooms in summer, specifically July and August in Alaska.

Habitat:

Seen in a freshwater marsh with many ducks around in the Chugach region. Native to N. America.

Notes:

No other Typha species have been reported from Alaska. If you’re stranded somewhere in the wilderness, parts of this plant are edible. :)
