Field Notes

Description:

Looks like a buckthorn (Rhamnus), but I am no expert on trees! My guess is Frangula caroliniana, but feel free to help me with this ID!

This is a deciduous tree with fleshy red fruit, smooth ovate to elliptic leaves, and smooth gray-brown bark with some slightly raised lenticels.

Habitat:

Moist understory of hardwood/mix forest, partial shade/sun.
