Field Notes

Description:

When I was 7-8 years old, my mom bought me a subscription for weekly "Wildlife Adventure Cards." I never forgot the bufflehead, for both its distinctive black and white plumage and because I liked saying its name. I never realized they were easily visible in Californian wetlands.

This little guy had been napping, and I caught him stretching his legs and scratching after he woke up.
