Bunch of insects were attracted to what seemed like tree sap.

There are six spotting there. The three types of flies. Two bees, and the wasps. You have to zoom in on the photo. WHAT A GREAT PHOTO!!!!
Moved to arthropods :-) Looks like wasps rather than bumble bees.
Looks like you have some others in there as well. Yellow Jacket Hornets, Green Fly and possibly a Carpenter Bee. What a great photo to catch all of them in one place.
