Field Notes

Description:

Nymphalidae; Satyrinae; Mycalesis perseus acarya Fruhstorfer, 1911. Wikipedia does not mention this ssp. in its article on Mycalesis perseus, for which it provides two common names, "Dingy Bushbrown" and "Common Bushbrown". In Philippine Lepidoptera, this ssp. is shown with the common name "Bushbrown". PhiLep goes on to display, in its gallery, a "Common Bushbrown" which has the scientific name Mycalesis perseus caesonia. It is slightly confusing, but I know that PhiLep has professional advisors, who help with identifications and I don't know the author of the Wiki article. So, I have gone with the "safe" option and followed Philippine Lepidoptera's nomenclature.

Habitat:

This Common Bushbrown was spotted resting, in the shade of a Mahogany Tree, on unidentified foliage (weeds) growing along a fence line.
