Field Notes

Description:

Body length 300cm, shoulder height 180-210cm & weighs between 600-1000kg.

Habitat:

A large herbivore that inhabits the deserts of northern & northeast Africa, the middle east & central Asia. The camel was introduced to Australia for transportation & has formed feral populations. Camels are now used for meat, camel rides & weed control.

This camel & around 15 others were spotted by my husband. He says he sees them often in this area & that sorghum is grown here.

thanks for the Information Lori. I thought the problem was worse than I'd written, but couldn't find much more information. Thanks!
There are well over a million feral camels in Australia and they are considered a major pest species. They are especially damaging to riparian zones and watering holes. They have no predators here, besides humans.
