Thanks for the correction Keith. I'm not 100% certain on the size as I made about 400 spottings this trip & I've been going on my memory! Reza, I checked the link & it looked spot on to me too!
Sorry, but this ID should be an indeterminate "Parides spp." because: * P. iphidamas is not recorded from east of the Ecuadorian Andes (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/neotropica/db/search_proc.asp?where_stg=species=%27iphidamas%27). * Of the four species reported from Orellana Province (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/neotropica/db/search_proc.asp?where_stg=genus=%27parides%27%20and%20province=%27orellana%27), one or more have unknown caterpillars. * Many Parides larvae are notoriously similar in appearance (personal rearing experience). Karen, is one-inch-long an accurate length? Thanks much!
Perhaps Parides iphidamas calogyna, since its from Ecuador ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parides_iphidamas
Could be Nuwan, though I didn't see any swallowtail butterflies there.
