Description:
The choko is grown easily in Australia and is used in a variety of recipes. It has various names around the world, chayote is one. Although most people are familiar only with the fruit as being edible, the root, stem, seeds and leaves are as well.
Habitat:
In Australia and New Zealand it is an easily grown yard or garden plant, set on a chicken wire support or strung against a fence.
Notes:
This choko was the only one on the vine which was on a fence in a paddock. I didn't realise it was worldwide, I thought it was an Australian fruit! Apparently, and this could be an urban myth, MacDonalds used it instead of apples in their apple pies.
