Description:
Spotted in the Tambopata National Reserve (Reserva Nacional Tambopata) a nature reserve in the Peruvian Amazon Basin. The Cocona is a native tropical citrus fruit from the Amazon region of Peru, belonging to the family solanaceae. According to Amazon Forest Workshops "The cocona has a high nutritional value, rich in iron and vitamin B5 (niacin); In addition to calcium, phosphorus, and small amounts of carotene, thiamine, and Riboflavin. This fruit has a low caloric intake and significant content of dietary fiber. The cocona has healing properties, is good against cholesterol and diabetes by its low sugar content. It also helps to control the excess of uric acid and other diseases caused by the malfunction of the kidneys and liver. In traditional medicine, used as anti-diabetic, antivenom, hypertension and treatment of burns."
