Field Notes

Description:

The comma is a medium-sized orange-and-brown butterfly. It has distinctively ragged wing edges, which help to camouflage it - at rest, it looks just like a dead leaf.

Habitat:

It is primarily a woodland butterfly, living in low-density forests with sunshine and moist soil. The species is commonly found in the woodland, country lanes, and garden areas.
