Description:

The Common Leopard is a medium sized butterfly with a wingspan of 50–55 mm with a tawny colour and marked with black spots. The underside of the butterfly is more glossy than the upper and both the male and female are similar looking.

Thanks bayucca I was thinking the same how this US butterfly came to south asia. Now I know what has Happened.

Please, not my misspelling!! It should be Phalanta phalantha (not phalanta in the species name).
Speyeria is an US butterfly and not found in India. This one is a Common Leopard, Phalanta phalanta. Nymphalidae, Heliconiinae, Vagrini.
