Field Notes

Description:

A.k.a. Coppery sunbird, this is a small bird, some 12cm in length, with long tail, but lacking elongated central tail feathers. Male is dark-brown, with coppery iridescence on head, neck and chest. Short , slender and curved bill.

Habitat:

Here, we observed on several occasions during our stay in this eco-lodge Malonda, near Pointe Noire. Lodge itself is on the Atlantic coast; overlooking the sandy beach and shallow but large lagoon. It is also bordering edges of tropical forest, and there is plenty of lush local vegetation (trees and shrubs), inside the compound.
