Field Notes

Description:

A young snake born last year but still had a sulfur colored tail. A light brown body with reddish-brown saddlebags that looked like Hershey kisses on the sides and a copper-colored head with a vertical cat-like pupil.

Habitat:

Semi-rural yard at the edge next to some woods. It was hanging out under some cover tin.

Notes:

Copperheads give live birth.

So I found a copperhead in my backyard. What will I do? I will continue to wear shoes when I go out. I will use a flashlight when I wander the yard at night. I will look before I put my hands/feet anywhere a snake or other creature might be hanging out. In short, I will do nothing differently than I am already doing.

Thanks! This is the first one I have found in my yard under my cover tin. I was so excited!
