Field Notes

Description:

Color changes at will from silver to green-banded with blue lines. Scale-less body horizontally compressed, large oval eyes, and forked tail with a long central filament. Attains 4 feet.

Habitat:

Bay

Notes:

Common on sandy reefs in shallow water where it preys upon small fish at night. Small groups may be seen resting just above the bottom.
Indo-Pacific & Tropical Eastern Pacific.
