Field Notes

Description:

A rhizomatous perennial herbaceous plant. Leaves erect to arched. Each stem ends in a single impressive dark brown to blackish flower.

Habitat:

Endemic to Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories. Arid transition zone between the Mediterranean region and the desert.

Notes:

Protected and endangered in Israel. Suffers from habitat loss to agricultural and rural developments as well as to aforestation.
