Field Notes

Description:

Quite small mushrooms, no taller than 5cm. They were an ochre colour, maybe slightly more orange than that. I found what I assume were different stages of development (there was a small one with a completely round cap, but my phone's stupid camera would not focus on it), most had a kind of conical shaped cap and appeared to be disintegrating/crumbling. They had knobs on the stem that looks like another stem might bud off (see pic 4, I know it's blurry).

Habitat:

There were lots growing on a wet, moss-covered grassy area, close to an oak tree. Moderate amounts of sunlight, though overall a shady area. In the vicinity of a small lake.

Notes:

L. laccata looks very similar to L. proxima, but can be easily differentiated by the fact that L. proxima only grows under conifers, whereas L. lacatta can be found under both coniferous and deciduous trees.

Thanks shebebusynow! Laccaria is definitely the genus, and I think I'm almost 100% sure it's L. laccata. All the info I could find said that there are two species that look very similar, L. laccata and L. proxima, but that L. proxima is only ever found under conifer trees. So looks like that clinches it for L. laccata!
Looks like it could be Laccaria laccata. Check it out.
