Field Notes

Notes:

My husband rescued this Diamond Python from our neighbours' yard in early Dec 08 after they called WIRES. It was in the process of eating a large possum (in the middle of the day - very strange, as diamond pythons AND possums are mostly nocturnal). Nath got there just in time to see the snake hinging its jaw back together. The possum was big enough that it split the snake's skin in at least one place that we saw, and the snake was so stuffed that it couldn't move (you can see the huge bulge in the primary picture). We took it home until it digested the possum and the wounds healed, and then released it at the end of the month (pic 2). We named it Monty, ha ha. (As an aside, when we first got it I had a horrible feeling that it might have been the python we lost earlier that year - see http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/14184006 - and now it was out causing terror and chaos in our neighbourhood. However, we checked the markings and it was a different snake. Phew.)
