Field Notes

Description:

Reddish brown. With a flattened and elongate body, and slender, beaded antennae. An obvious feature is the pair of 'pincers' or forceps at the tip of the flexible abdomen.

Habitat:

Introduced to North America in the early twentieth century, they are currently spread throughout much of the continent. This specimen was spotted in Elton, SW Pennsylvania.
