Field Notes

Notes:

This moth is roughly 4cm long and wide. Very "hairy" body. As I started taking pics of it, it flapped its wing vigorously in order to warm up to fly.

Thank you J, that helps allot. It is still winter on this side, and believe you are correct with the warming up session it displayed.
http://africanmoths.com/index.html Very helpful website with African Moths.
Vigorously flapping wings means the moth is "warming up" to fly. They usually are able to warm their bodies up to 104F while shaking their wings like this. The actions took by this moth allow it to fly in cold nights, or high altitudes, which may be very cold.
