Description:

Firefly larvae feed on slugs snails and other larvae, this is what likely attracted it to this patch of mushrooms. Once they reach adult stage, they cease to feed and their only purpose is to mate.

This is at the nature sanctuary I volunteer, I did see lot of glowing worms or caterpillars last weekend, obviously it was dark so did not get good look at any, but they were everywhere.
There is a resemblance with lampyris noctiluca larvae but the mouth part is different. Could be a parent of the family? Or perhaps the american lampyris is slightly different from the european? Do you have glowworms in your garden?
