Field Notes

Description:

This adult fiscal is feeding one of its 3 babies. Last year they only had one, we are very pleased to show off three this year - perhaps I would have had more spots of insects had it not been for 5 fiscal mouths to feed - This is a fairly distinctive 21–23 cm long passerine with white underparts and black upperparts extending from the top of the head down to the tail. The bird has a characteristic white 'V' on the back and a relatively long black tail with white outer feathers and white tips on the other feathers. The bill, eyes and legs are black. Adult male and female Common Fiscals are quite similar except for the rufous lower flank of the female. A western race is distinct in showing a clear white eyebrow.

Habitat:

They live in our area - I would guess the size of 6 houses.

Thank you Christy, they had three babies! I have another spot in my collection where I was so lucky to get all three babies in one photo! :)
Thank you Arun, I see them every day in the garden. The baby is always screaming for more food!
