Description:

About 2" in length. I've always been freaked out by these guys because of their powerful looking mandibles.... Never been bitten though. These are sometimes called Fish Flies as well.

Habitat:

Diverse woods near a small lake.

Here's the problem with common names! I've got the Latin name correct! I'll change the common name to Fishfly.
The fishflies are in the same family as dobsonflies, but that's where the relationship ends. They are in much different genera. This is definitely a species of fishfly. :-)
You sure that's a Donsonfly? I've seen them before , and while the males do have those wicked-looking long mandibles, I don't recall seeing the comb-like branches on them. I'll try to poke around and see what I can come up with. ;)
