Field Notes

Description:

Spotted a few meters from a pond on our family farm. She appeared to be preparing a place to lay eggs, although none were laid yet. She was very big, probably about 40 - 50 cm (roughly 1.5 feet).

Habitat:

Florida softshell turtles are highly aquatic and are found in freshwater ponds, lakes, swamps, marshes, and sometimes drainage ditches. They are generally found in water bodies with muddy or sandy bottoms.
