Description:

this fungi was as thick as a little finger and maybe 2 inches long, though some were shorter.

It was growing among leaf litter on dead wood on a small trail down the side of a steep mountain in a dark wet rainforest.

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

thanks Michael. Changed the name... There were several mature Ganoderma growing in the area.
With that red brown band, I'd say these are premature Ganoderma :) Maybe if you know where they are, you could take a look if they are starting to grow caps!
