Field Notes

Notes:

This poor thing was looking a little worse for wear. It's wings were tattered and holy. It was quite happy sitting on my finger and when I put it on a leaf it did not (or possibly could not) fly away.

Thanks Martin, very interesting. It definately looks like it comes from the lycaenid family and these ones do look very similar: http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_blues/CommonGrassBlue.htm
This seems to have deformed (curled wing) and this would be an error in emerging from the pupa. I think it is the lycaenid Grass blue (Zizina labradus) http://thebeatsheet.com.au/soybeans/watch-out-for-the-blues/ The larvae eat clover, and soy beans and alfalfa.
