Field Notes

Description:

A relatively small canine approximately 1 meter long. It is recognized as the only canine in the American continent capable of climbing trees. In spite of being carnivores, this individual from the photos apparently likes bananas (second image). This particular one, I saw in a coffee plantation. most of the time, I have seen them in open areas in the vicinity of the forest.

Habitat:

Rain and cloud forest

Beautiful spotting Jonathan.Congrats on the well deserved SOTW and thanks for sharing
Congratulations Jonathan, your inquisitive gray fox has been voted Spotting of the Week! "An inquisitive Gray Fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) with an appetite for bananas has been voted Spotting of the Week! The only American canid that can climb trees, the gray fox shares this ability with the Asian raccoon dog. The gray fox is omnivorous and fruit can be an important part of its diet. The Project Noah rangers team found this spotting endearing with a nice personal touch, with interesting information about diet documented in the images". Yes, fingers crossed. This is a wonderful spotting. Great photos.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
