Description:

The name "ground squirrel" is the name for the medium sized rodents that live int he ground (larger ones known as marmots/prairie dogs and smaller known to be chipmunks). It varies in sizes due to habitat. The ground squirrel is known for standing on its hind legs for a long amount of time because they are:
-searching for food
-scouting for on coming danger
This mammal usually eat various vegetation and bugs. They eat shrubs, forbs, flowers, seeds, stems, and roots for their herbs. Other than that their commensalism relation with grasshoppers, crickets, and caterpillars, as well as eggs of ground-nesting birds is just feeding on them. Their claws can dig holes and many tunnels to nest in and hide from predators. Mating occurs in the spring a few days after hibernation, they produce sexually and sexually only. Unlike other animals they are polygynous (meaning the male reproduces with more than one female).
